Farmer Auction proudly presents the eclectic estate of Harry and Betty Gilbert, of Daniels, WV. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert were longtime residents of Raleigh County and together founded the Little General Convenience Stores.

This auction offers a very diverse selection of items from Antique to Contemporary. You will have the opportunity to bid on Mrs. Gilbert’s watercolor artworks as well as other local artists whose mediums range from painting to pottery. Mr. Howard Hammond was a man of many varied talents and accomplishments: he was a passionate genealogist and local historian; a talented artist, solo vocalist and theatre actor; a lifelong art teacher; a prolific photographer, documentarian, and writer; a captivating storyteller; a devoted friend and family member; and a true gentleman with a kind and generous spirit.
His collection contains over 200 years of his family’s history & Alleghany Highlands history.  His twin brother Charlie Hammond was a life-long Covington resident and teacher at Covington High School.  Noted family members and institutions represented in this collection include:  
• His great-grandfather William S. Wills - Civil War veteran, pharmacist and owner of Wills Drug Store, the first drug store in Covington
• His grandfather Charles Howard Revercomb - early postmaster of Covington and member of the Virginia House of Delegates
•     His uncle Charles Pickett Barnett - C&O Railroad engineer and City Engineer for Covington
•     His father Frank Hammond, Jr. - owner of Hammond Coal Company
•     His grandfather Frank Hammond, Sr. - owner of F.H. Hammond Notion Co.
